Lecturer: Samantha Lindley BVSc MRCVS - being held on 24th - 27th June 2022
This 4 day ONLINE LIVE ZOOM course is aimed at the pain clinician and the pain clinic veterinary nursewho is already familiar with treating chronic pain in dogs and cats. Very often, the practitioner is faced with the difficulty in distinguishing between behaviours that are directly the result of pain and those caused by pain, but now learned; the presentation of mixed behavioural/pain pictures; and the need to determine whether the outcome measures selected are pain or behaviour related.
The course will teach how the effects of chronic pain affect the brain and behaviour of the patient; the normal behaviour of cats and dogs and how pain may affect this; how to distinguish between a painful cause and a social/environmental cause of a behaviour problem; and will teach some basic principles in treating common behavioural disorders, including the use of behaviour modifying drugs. Case examples, discussions and group work will be mixed with lecture presentations.
This course can be taken as a stand-alone experience (24 hours of CPD) or can be used as part of the bespoke award in Integrated Care in Veterinary Practice (ECAS AWARD in ICVP).  To download a booking form please click on this link registeration_form_behaviour_medicine_june_2022.pdf  For a copy of the syllabus please contact Kay at  longviewcpd@gmail.com

The Online course for Online Communication - NEW FOR 2022
Clarity Talks (in conjunction with The Confidence Trick)
The Online/offline course for Online/offline Communication
We are all now connecting online with colleagues and clients, but are we communicating as well as we can? Now we are returning to face to face communication, how easy do we find it to stand up again in front of our peers?
Clarity Talks is a 2-3 day Masterclass in communication hosted by journalist, BBC radio presenter and TEDx host Clare English
Days 1 and 2 will be offered online with the (highly recommended) option of Day 3 face to face (after a period of time practising the techniques taught in Days 1& 2)
This course takes us to the heart of communication: whether we have a complex message to convey or a simple passion to impart to others, we are, essentially, just “people telling stories to other people”.
When we have to do this online, we have to learn different skills so that we can tell the same story effectively and with compassion.
Many people find online communication tiring and difficult: the absence of feedback and eye contact; technological difficulties; and being self-conscious in a different medium all contribute to the challenges. If we find it difficult, how much harder must it be for clients and colleagues to hear the right information and to assess the correctly the emotion or compassion we may wish to convey?
The transition back to face-to-face communication carries its own challenges, but, along with adversity comes opportunity. Our new hybrid way of working, thinking and communicating means we need to shake things up in the ways we talk to each other, convey important information and, importantly, inspire one another.
Join us on a creative endeavour to connect and communicate more effectively live and in the digital space.

A practical introduction to physical rehabilitation for the canine patient (in conjunction with TRÉIDLIA CPD)
2 day Foundation course - New for 2022.  Dates to follow
This course, based on the canine patient, and aimed at veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses in practice,  will educate participants in: how pain is perceived; the processes involved in the development of chronic pain as a disease and the effects this may have on the patient’s ability to move and function. There will be a substantial practical component to the course and at the end of the two days, the participants should understand how to take a problem based approach and create progress guided protocols for osteoarthritic and cranial cruciate patients.

All the above course are accredited by Entia, and lead to an Entia Certificate in Advanced Studies (ECAS award) www.entia.org.uk
